The Great Protein Problem

The Great Protein Problem

Congratulations, you’re now on a path towards your best self! Whether this is your 10’th time or your 1’st time, it’s always a good time. So, you’re excited, you’re motivated, you’re feeling confident, then you overhear a conversation “the fit” people are having, talking about the protein powder they take after their workout. Suddenly, you get this feeling… “uh oh, do I need to be taking a protein powder?” You see ads, you see fit-fluencers on Instagram, you see nutrition stores, smoothie shops, and aisles at the grocery store dedicated to “sports powders” but is it all necessary?

Before we answer that. Let’s talk about a problem that’s been occurring for the last several decades. You may find yourself in a very common American pattern, which is overworked, under-exercised, over-consuming, but undernourished. All this leads to a decrease in muscle tissue. Many don’t know where to begin with changing those patterns. Usually, people find they’re searching for a way of life that’s easy, and sustainable but still will still produce results.

I don’t blame them. But easy and sustainable doesn’t give much guidance, and it certainly doesn’t give anyone much direction. So what’s the plan, how do we solve this problem? First, start moving, get stronger, and join a fitness routine that challenges your muscles, that’s goal #1. You’ve accomplished that. Next, you’ll need to start ingesting more of the nutrient that builds muscle, which is protein. Resupplying your muscles throughout the day with the appropriate amount of protein (which we’ll talk about in another blog) promotes the quality of life you need to thrive. Americans have now defaulted to convenience with food, and are sedentary with their bodies. Even with a little resistance training a day, and the proper protein intake, you’ll begin to feel better, and show the results from the hard work you’re putting in.

In our next blog we’ll discuss the common types of protein you’ll see on the shelves of a nutrition shop. Until then, live healthy, live happy, and live your best today, so that you can enjoy tomorrow.
